There are mainly six types of shipping containers, all of them are mentioned below:
- Dry storage containers:
These are standard size container, they are usually to transport dry products from one place to another. 10ft, 20ft and 40ft lengths are the usual sizes of these containers.
- Flat Rack containers:
They mainly contain collapsible sides which fold, ideal for shipping boats, equipment and cars.
- Open side containers:
The doors to the containers can be opened completely on the side, which allows for wider loading of materials, ideal for shipping vegetables.
- Open top containers:
These containers have no roof, which enables goods of any height to be shipped, such as logs or machinery.
- Refrigerated containers: for food stock or pharmaceutical products.
- Tanks: to retain liquids.
How freight is shipped?

The type of packaging would be determined by the quantity of the goods getting exported. If the goods are low in quantity, therefore, LCL would be more suitable in this scenario. Where the freight forwarder would align the goods with another consignment to complete the container, this would help in saving money.
