sulphur is found in elemental sulphur form in the nature. Salt domes and evaporate deposits (also called frasch) are the main sources of elemental sulphur. Elemental sulphur is also recovered from hydrocarbons. It used to be mined through Fresch Process till 2000.
Now large quantity of sulphur is obtained from sulphuric acid which is indispensable for various industries. Pyrites and nonferrous ores are some sources of sulphuric acid.
sulphur was first discovered in the volcanic area of Sicily. With increasing demands, such sources became unable to fulfill the requirement. It was the time when Frasch process was discovered, which augmented the supply of sulphur.
